The seventh annual Denbigh Carnival is taking place on Saturday 22nd June and this year’s theme is Land, Sea and Air. Here’s all the info that you will find useful if you are planning to come along!
The Carnival starts at 11am with an impressive procession which will see floats, walking parties in fancy dress, marching bands and the Carnival Royal Retinue travel down from Caledfryn (Denbighshire County Council’s offices) on Smithfield Road, across Lenten Pool and the High Street, into Vale Street before turning into the Carnival field (Middle Parc) via Park Street.
If you are taking part in the procession, please be at Caledfryn by 10.20am at the very latest.
Please remember that from approximately 10.50am, the roads affected will be closed temporarily, to ensure that everyone can pass safely. Please plan your journeys to minimise disruption to your day. And thank you in advance for your patience with our marshals at the junctions whilst the roads are closed. We appreciate it!
There are loads of great viewpoints along the route, so please do support and cheer on those taking part. The procession will be lead by the Cambria Band and Fire Engine. We also have the Rhyl Youth Marching Band taking part so it is going to be a real spectacle.
The Carnival itself takes part on Middle Parc playing fields, behind Denbigh Infirmary and adjacent to Denbigh Town FC. The easiest pedestrian access is via Park Street.
Entry to the field is FREE FOR EVERYONE. So, you don’t need to pay anything to come and enjoy the day. There will be loads of free entertainment, live bands, a Morris Dancing competition, Wrestlers and a petting zoo. We also have a circus skills workshop, the Royals competition, classic and vintage motor show, the axe men and a magician. Of course, it wouldn’t be Carnival if we didn’t also have a funfair, face painting, inflatables and balloons!
As always, we will have a variety of treats and refreshments available, so you will be able to grab a snack or drink whilst they enjoy the day. Bella the Prosecco van will be parked close to our Beer Tent for the grown-ups, but there will be loads of options for the kids too.
For those travelling into Denbigh by car, parking is restricted in the vicinity of the Carnival but there will be parking available in the Leisure Centre, Plas Pigot, Myddelton College and local car parks. Any cars parked illegally in the vicinity of the Carnival are liable to be clamped, subject to fines or towed by Police, so please park considerately. We also urge everyone to be mindful of parking restrictions locally. Disabled parking can only be booked in advance by calling 01745 812694 or 07716 813035.
You could also be lucky and win one of our brilliant raffle prizes, so remember to purchase your raffle tickets at the gate. All funds raised via our raffle are used to keep Denbigh Carnival free entry for everyone.
