The Denbigh Carnival was resurrected in 2013 after an absence of over 10 years. A few old photographs of earlier Carnival floats had been posted on Facebook and a groundswell of reminiscence resulted in a small committee being formed as a spin off from the Denbigh Mid-Summer Festival committee.
That committee of enthusiastic volunteers constructed a plan to bring the community together, with a procession of fancy dress, dancing, decorated floats and music leading into the Carnival field in Middle Park (adjacent to Denbigh Town FC, access via Park Street). On the field itself, the organisers had arranged entertainment, stalls, raffle, refreshments, a fun fair and a whole host of family fun that was free to enjoy. The feedback to the event was overwhelmingly positive and the subsequent Carnivals were even bigger and better! The 2019 event takes place on Saturday 22nd June. The Motor Show will now take place on the same day, offering even more entertainment for everyone!
Denbigh Carnival is free to enter, with loads of attractions to keep the whole family entertained. The procession will leave from the Council office Caledfryn at 11am. Does your club, team or group want to enter a float or take part in our fancy dress competition? Or would you prefer to try your muscle in the tug of war? There are prizes to be won!
In 2018, the Cambria Band led the way onto the Carnival field again, where visitors enjoyed music, face painting, the small animal zoo, archery and learning new football skills. The wrestlers were back by popular demand, along with a funfair, bouncy castles, morris dancers and tug of war.
The Royal retinue for 2019’s Carnival will be selected at the Christmas light switch on event and names announced on our Blog. The theme for 2019 is Land, Sea and Air!
